The Tuesday Link Rodeo Officical Graphic

Hello and Welcome to this weeks edition of the Tuesday Link Rodeo!

The first link today goes to the general at Jesus’ General, as is one of his letters to far right wing lunatics. This one is goes to a pro life Republican congressional candidate who paid for his girlfriend’s abortion.

Our next link goes to this blog post about George Carlin by Ed Brayton of Dispatches From the Culture Wars. Via PZ Meyers, comes this video of George Carlin doing one of his routines. This video is great.

Our last article for the day is this post at reason magazine’s blog hit and run, about an article that claims that airlines need to be re-regulated. Now, for anyone who knows anything about the history of the airline industry knows that this would be a disaster, unless your idea of fun is one air carrier having a monopoly on international travel, and other such things. (Of course, regulation also breeds creative ways to avoid it, this is way Southwest Airlines, and the airline from which it acquired its business model from (PSA) were both intrastate carriers, and were thus regulated by their local states) I should so bring up the IATA, which had its own crazy rules (The IATA’s price fixing attempts as decreased)

The Tuesday Link Rodeo Officical Graphic

Our first link is to this article at Reason Hit and Run about the crusade against unliscensed pool and ping pong tables.

Lunatic Sally Kern from Oklahoma is at it again. This post from Pharyngula tells how Kern is reintroducing her bill to prevent teachers from giving students bad grades if they claim that the answer that they wrote down is a religious belief. If this passes, I would love to see someone try to get away with writing a non Christian creation myth down and see if they can get credit for it.

This post from Glenn Greenwald is about a recent interview by Atlantic magazine with Barrack Obama. This article contrasts the current Israeli butt kissing that is required of modern American politicians with a 1950s era letter in which Dwight Eisenhower claims to have told the state Department to tell David Ben-Gurion that America would “handle our affairs exactly as though we didn’t have a Jew in America.” (more about this general topic is available here)

UPDATE:

This post from by the Washington Post’s blogger Philip Carter is very good, but from a few days ago.

The Tuesday Link Rodeo Officical Graphic

Welcome. I hope to restart non special features tomorrow, if not later today. However, here right now, is the Tuesday Link rodeo. I am also introducing the official Tuesday Link Rodeo graphic.

Link number one comes to us from the blog of cartoonist Tom Tomorrow. This link which itself is mainly a link to a post at common dreams, about a weird religious organization that Hilary Clinton is member of.
Link number two comes at you from Crooks and liars, and is about general Petraeus’s impending statement to congress that all is well, and pay no attention to the recent spurt of mortar attacks on the Green Zone. Including this one which caused MSNBC to break into one of John McCain’s all is well in Iraq speeches. (also on Crooks and Liars)

Link Number three, goes to Reason Magazine’s blog, Hit and Run. The subject is how one of Hilary Clinton’s advisor’s, who was working for a PR firm on helping to get the US-Columbia Free Trade agreement passed got fired because of it. To me, the lack of support for free trade is one of the most disturbing aspects about the current crop of democratic presidential candidates.

Link Number four is to this story at Harper’s Magazine, about how a military lawyer who disclosed the list of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. (hat tip to Tom Tomorrow)

Link Number Five
is to a blog post at one of the Washington Post’s blogs. This post is about an odd paragraph in the latest torture memo to surface. (hat tip to Matt Welch at reason hit and run)

So long and see you next week for another exciting Tuesday Link Rodeo!

Tuesday Link Rodeo!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 11, 2008 by andarm16

This just in, I have now add a new feature, in which I will provide a series of links that I feel is worth looking at. This feature will run on Tuesday, as the title suggests

This first link is to Ed Brayton’s blog, at scienceblogs.com, Dispatches from the Culture Wars. This post is about how the American Family Association  has called for parents to keep their children home on the National Day of Silence.

The second link is also to Dispatches from the Culture Wars. The link is a article about this Youtube video featuring a speech by a  crazy lady who is a state congressperson in Oklahoma. The speech is about the “evil” of teh Gay, and how it is worse than terrorism.

This link, from Reason magazine is about the hypocrisy of Eliot Spitzer, governor of New York (for the time being anyway). It talks about how Spitzer busted several prostitution rings in the past.

Next link is to Glenn Greenwald’s blog at salon.com. This article asks the question “Who cares if Eliot Spitzer hires prostitutes”.

Thanks for reading my first link rodeo, and I hope to see you all next week.

My View on nuclear weapons

Posted in Uncategorized on February 29, 2008 by andarm16

(This is an essay that I wrote for an English Class last semester)

How many times over does the earth need to destroyed?

On July 16th 1945, the United States detonated the first ever atomic bomb. Since then, the US has amassed a vast stockpile of nuclear weapons, as part of the Cold War with the Soviet Union. While the number of weapons currently held by the US is much lower than what it was during the cold war, the United States stills maintains about 3,800 actively deployed strategic nuclear weapons according to the Office of the Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters. In addition, according to the Federation of American Scientists, an American anti nuclear group, the US maintains about another 4700 weapons in storage. This brings us to the question that I hope to cover with this paper: does the United States really need such a large number of nuclear weapons?

Hello world!

Hello, and welcome to my blog. I am probably going to post mainly about politics, with a small amount of stuff about religion. (you know, the two things that one should never mention in polite conversation) And another thing, don’t worry, I won’t try to convert you to any religion. (I am not religious myself) I will not delete any comments unless they are threatening.
